Creating the Design
The concept behind the Basix Vitamin Water logo & label design was simplicity. A label design that would showcase the products selling features - flavorless water containing six complex B vitamins - was crucial. Basix, the name says it all. No fancy swirls, no trendy bird silhouettes, just the basics. The label’s backdrop not only magnifies each essential vitamin slightly blurred, it also creates contrast sparking a viewer’s interest and drawing them in to read the small text.
The label design process took approximately 9 weeks. This included logo prototypes (seen below) and revisions, getting quotes from label manufacturers, deciding on bottle dimensions, and getting sample prints from the printing company.

The Basix team was really going for simplicity and a clean design. The final logo was a culmination of all the designs. As with any logo design, trial and error was epxected and encouraged.
The layout design of the label was also challenging. The goal… try to fit as much information about the product while keeping it clean and aesthetically pleasing. A challenge that came up was the aligning of the front label with the bubble backdrop. Since a label printer had not been chosen, the dimensions of label where approximated. Multiple printers had different dimensions they liked to work with and cost also became a factor. What size can we print and get the best price on? The Basix team shipped a sample bottle next day and we started lining up the front label and backdrop. We came up with a working label size that lined up both the front and back artwork, while allowing for a quarter of an inch bleed in case we had to change the dimensions for a particular printer. At the end we did have to adjust the label dimensions, but the changes were not major. The label was now done and had been sent to the printers so they could create the printing plates.
The logo turned out great and it looks even better on the finished product. I look forward to seeing this product on the market. For more information on basix Vitamin Water visit http://www.basixVitaminWater.com
